The Hindu-American community in the US donated more than 1.3 lakh kgs of food to the poor and needy in honour of the Sewa Diwali drive.

The food drive organized by the Indian-American community including yoga institutions, cultural communities and yoga institutions made a collective effort for donating food to the poor and needy during Diwali season. All organization rooted in the Dharmic value had been a part of this drive.

Around 179 organisations along with multiple interested individuals came together to collect food for the needy. This drive took place all around the country. After two months of efforts, 294,000 pounds of food was collected across 26 states and 225 towns all over the USA. Along with donating food to the needy, the organizations also donated to 199 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.

The drive began with driving to people’s houses and collecting food or food packets.

This initiative started in 2018. During that year, the drive collected 18,000 pounds of food. In 2019, they collected more than 55,000 pounds of food. Each year the amount of food generated increases each year and more people come together.
