The Governor of NY has mentioned that gradual reopening and simultaneously being prepared for the second wave of the infection will help buy some time for the hospitals to prepare itself and not be overwhelmed as it was the first time around.

The North County is the latest region that fulfilled all the seven metrics and is going to be reopened this Friday. Governor Cuomo has also reported that the capital region is also set to be reopened, it is just one metric away but the same is likely going to be soon.

Aside from the Phase 1 reopening in these four regions, 12 regions in New York are also eligible to perform elective surgeries which were previously halted temporarily because of the urgent need for the hospital staff. The 12 regions in the list include Albany, Cayuga, Chemung, Columbia, Clinton, Cortland, and Montgomery, Orange, Otsego, Rensselaer, Schenectady, and Warren counties.

This leaves Erie and New York City area to not have the allowance for elective surgeries but the rest of the counties are now eligible.

Currently, the Department of Health is investigating the 102 rare cases of a Covid-19 related disease in the children which resembles the symptoms of the Kawasaki disease or the toxic-like syndrome.

Amidst the 102 cases, 60% of the children have tested positive for Covid-19, 40% of them tested positive for the antibodies and 14% of the children tested positive for both the categories.

Governor Cuomo stated that it is likely that the children have been exposed to the virus weeks before.

Out of the children that have been diagnosed with the condition, 43% of them remain hospitalised and 19% of them resulted in intubations.

The DOH has asked all the hospitals to prioritise testing all the children for Covid-19 who have been exhibiting signs of the virus.

Cuomo has also reported that they have also alerted not just the other states but the adjoining countries of the symptoms that they have been noticing in these children.

Following the reports by Cuomo, 14 other states in US and 5 other European countries have been reporting similar cases. The researchers and scientists are now investigating the condition and looking for the reasons behind this condition.

Several of the new antibody tests are also surveying the essential workers showcasing that the rate of infection in them is a lot less in comparison.

Governor Cuomo reported that the same could be because the essential workers have been wearing face masks. Not just that, they have been washing hands frequently and following the hygiene and safety protocols than most of the people staying inside their homes.

The Department of Labour has also informed that the states has already issued $7.4 billion in unemployment benefits.

As per the reports, New York reported 166 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The same is gradually decreasing, 195 less from the day before that.
