Indian American Congresswoman, progressive Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal’s last ditch attempt to stop Donald Trump from taking over as the president of the US has failed when she was over-ruled and the Congress has cleared the path by certifying his election.

Pramila Jayapal rose repeatedly during the joint session of the Congress to object to the certification of Donald Trump’s election, which is required to legally complete the process.

After repeatedly cutting Jayapal off, Vice President Joseph Biden, who presided over the session, declared: “It’s over!”

“Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency,” a report from the government asserted.

Jayapal’s objections, were about the election results from Georgia. In keeping with the protocol of Congress, Biden addressed her formally when she stood up: “For what purpose does the gentlewoman rise?”

She began: “Mr. President, I object to the certificate from the state of Georgia on the grounds that the electoral votes were not…” and Biden cut her off mid-sentence by banging his gavel saying: “There is no debate.”

Her next attempt to raise was also unsuccessful because as a new member of Congress, she did not seem familiar with the rules that requires a written statement signed also by at least one Senator. And so, with Biden declaring: “It’s over,” Trump was cleared to become the 45th President of the US.

“It was really important, from my personal perspective for the American people to know we understand the issues with the way this election happened,” she said.
