In a first-ever case, an Indian-origin mother being separated from her specially abled son at the United States-Mexico border was reported on Friday. The mother who was seeking asylum was separated from her five-year-old son under the “zero tolerance” policy of U.S. President Donald Trump, according to media reports.

According to report, at least 2,000 children have been separated from their parents at the U.S. border and the decision has created an outcry in America.

Although the Indian woman by Arizona court was granted $30,000 bond, it is yet to be ascertained whether she was reunited with her son or not.

The immigrants who were crossing the border illegally were arrested by the U.S. law enforcement agencies and so far 2,300 children have been separated, as per news agency PTI. Donald Trump, after a huge outcry across the U.S., stopped the practice and signed an order to do so.

According to report, Bhavan Patel, a prison uniform, sat in the immigration court alone. Patel fled Ahmedabad due to political persecution and arrived in Greece. From where she traveled to Mexico before she crossed over the border, illegally entering the U.S. with her son.

Her lawyer told the court that Patel’s son was “not doing well”. Alinka Robinson, the attorney, asked the judge to grant her a bond, which will enable her to reunite with her disabled son. On the other hand, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement told the court that the woman was a flight risk.

“An asylum officer had already found she had a ‘credible fear’ of being hurt or killed if she were sent back to India. She told the judge that her brother arranged her passage and that she never paid a smuggler,” as quoted by PTI.

According to the reports, there are more than 200 illegal Indians locked up in federal prisons in Washington, Oregon, New Mexico.
