A Makkah-based NRI, originally from Nizamabad, Telangana, succumed to death on Thursday due to Covid-19 complications.

The NRI, who was 65-year old complained of mild fever but didn’t show any other symptoms. Because of the persistent fever, he was admitted to a local hospital on Tuesday and passed away on Thursday. It was after his death that the family members were informed that he tested positive for the virus.

“We are shocked that he was infected with the pandemic,” his family members reported.

The deceased had been in Makkah for the past 35 years and has been working for Binl Laden Group of Companies. He left behind his wife and four children – two daughters and two sons. While the wife resides in India, the children are all based in Al Khobar and Jubail.

While the children have been trying desperate measures to reach Makkah to see the last glimpse of their father, the imposed restrictions within the Holy City has made it impossible for them to do so.

Indian consul general Md. Noor Rahman Sheikh has taken over the case and will look further into it. Meanwhile, social worker Mozzam Ali Ifteqar has been assisting the deceased’s family back in India. The burial and the whole process is being looked after and tended to by Mujeeb Pookkottur in Makkah and Nass Vokkam in Dammam.
