Last Monday, both India and New Zealand made history by appointing Priyanca Radhakrishnan, an Indian origin lady as one of the minsters of New Zealand.

Prime Minister Jacinda Harden was responsible for bringing her along with five other ministers into the executive.

In 2017, she was elected as the member of Parliament belonging to the Labour Party, In 2019, she was appointed as Secretary to the minister for Ethic Communities in the Parliament .

She is currently the minister for Community and Voluntary Sector and the Associate Minister for social Development and Employment.

Announcing the names of the new ministers, Prime Minister Ardern said: “I am excited to be bringing in some new talent, with first-hand experience in the areas that they will be working in, and reflecting the New Zealand that elected us on the 17th of October.”

Priyanca was born in India and went to school in Singapore before moving to New Zealand for further studies. She had spent her time helping those whose voices are often unheard- survivors of violence, domestic violence, migrant workers who have been exploited and the poor.
