Two United States-based non-resident Indian entrepreneurs have donated whopping Rs 14 crores to the popular hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, on Friday, according to a temple official.

The devotees, who wished to remain anonymous, contributed on the auspicious day of Varalakshmi Vratam, a festival dedicated to the Goddess Lakshmi, the official told PTI.

Following prayers with their family members at the hill shrine, they handed over a demand draft for Rs 14 crore to the special officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, AV Dharma Reddy.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is an independent trust that exercises control over 2,000 year-old temple.

The devotees sought the temple officials to use the funds for different TTD-run public welfare trusts. This is the second consecutive year the two NRIs have made a similar offering.
