National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP) which is a US- based public policy think tank has made a study according to which over a third of H-1B visa applications that have been filed by Indian IT services firms have been rejected in the fiscal year 2019.

A study which is based on data from the US Citizenship and the Immigration Services (USCIS) has showed that the H-1B applications of large US technology firms with a significant presence in India have been however rejected in the low single digits.

The US Citizenship and the Immigration Services is an agency which is said to administer the process of visa and follows an October to September financial year.

The rejection rates have been reported by certain companies which include Tata Consultancy Services at 31 per cent, Infosys at 35 per cent, Wipro at 47 per cent and Tech Mahindra at 37 per cent.

The company Cognizant which has its headquarters at the United States and which follows an outsourcing model which is similar to that of the companies of India have also experiencing the visa application being rejected for over half of the applications that have been made.

In the fiscal year of 2019, Tata Consultancy Services was the only Indian firm among the top ten recipients of the new H-1B visas.

Stuart Anderson who is the executive director of National Foundation for the American Policy has said that it is being evident that the administration of Donald Trump would make it more difficult foe the foreign nationals who are well educated in order to work in America in the fields of science and engineering, in the next three years.

Stuart Anderson has worked in the administration of W Bush as an executive associate commissioner for policy and planning and planning counsellor to the Commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Services.

Although the number of H-1B visas received by the Indian nationals has not reduced significantly and the United States would now favour the technology companies of America over the Indian companies.

However, concerns have been raised by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) regarding the discrimination against the Indian IT services firms. The National Association of Software and Services Companies is a software lobby group of India.

It can be noticed in the study by National Foundation for the American Policy that although there has been increased rates across the board for all the companies, it can be observed that the IT services companies or the companies where the employees would be placed in third party locations were the ones which were the most affected.
