While businesses all across the world are stalling ways to keep themselves afloat during the pandemic in Phoenix, one business is doing it the right way to help local businesses and farms at the same time.

Kell Duncan, who is the co-owner of Churchill in downtown Phoenix reported that much like every other business around, they have been trying to find ways to pivot and sustain themselves during such times of crisis.

Duncan further said that during all the chaos, the one thing that he noticed was the hit the small farms were experiencing because of the sudden shut down of the restaurants.

“This was our opportunity to launch that program, so we partnered with Sun Produce, that’s a cooperative that works with all the small farms locally so we work with Sun Produce to get our produce for our CSA program,” Duncan exclaimed saying.

They created community boxes that cost around $20 to $30. They also have some special boxes that have been created by the local chefs containing all the ingredients that you would need to make their signature dish.

The money that is earned from that then goes back to the restaurant and employees.

Andrew Fritz, owner of Public House reported that when he received the phone call from Duncan discussing this as a possibility, he was floored and excited that there are people out there willing to indulge in something so helpful towards the people in a bigger crisis.

Duncan further added that every little contribution and every little fundraiser that they could do right now would help sustain the small business and not make them lose their source of income.
