Since ages, women across the world have been working hard to fight against male dominance and prevail over hardships. Irrelevant to the line of work, womanhood has been challenging. However, in this progressive world, women are bowing out of no possibility to be a stalwart.

One such strong notable woman is Dr. Ratna Prabha, a renowned IAS officer. Born in a family of achievers, Ratna Prabha was swayed by her parents’ hard work and commitment towards their work.

Ratna Prabha took charge as an Assistant Commissioner 37 years ago and her first posting was in Bidar, a city in Karnataka. Later in 2017, she was appointed as the third woman Chief Secretary in Karnataka state.

Since then she left no turn to stand as an exemplar of women empowerment. She is absolutely an embodiment of courage, determination, strength and perseverance who has round-the-clock worked diligently to provide reservation to Schedule castes and Scheduled Tribes, who were once then considered untouchables.

In addition, she propagated for the rights and under-representation of women in civil services. The announcement of Ratna Prabha’s appointment as the third woman civil servant in Karnataka came as a hope for women across India.

On the happening of the Women Conference – Symbol of strength, organized by women empowerment foundation on September 14, Ratna Prabha is gracing the event as a chief guest.

Impressively, Ratna Prabha is the only third woman who served as a civil servant after Teresa Bhattacharya (2000) and Malati Das (2006). Currently, she is the second woman to concurrently hold the top post in the state with Neelamani N Raju, who is the director and Inspector General of Police.

Ratna-PrabhaIn a bid to promote entrepreneurship, Ratna Prabha conducted “Invest Karnataka Summit” in 2016. Consequently, she received the Woman of the Year award from the American Biographical Institute Inc, USA, for two consecutive years in 1999 and 2000.

Ratna Prabha’s father was an IAS officer, mother was a doctor, and one of her brothers too was an IAS officer.

In one of her interviews, when she was asked: “What drives you in your efforts?”

Ratna replied:

From the beginning of my career I’ve been very enthusiastic, I’ve been very different while handling issues, dealing with the public or with the government, so I think it’s my nature- I have a lot of love and passion for work.

Hailing from Karkala, a town in Karnataka, Ratna Prabha got married to K Vidyasagar, who is also an IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh. She completed her education in Andhra Pradesh. She invariably used to be fond of visiting her ancestral house and vicinity in Karkala. The last time Ratna Prabha visited Karkala was in 2016 at the demise of her mother.

Besides being instrumental in triggering off women empowerment, Ratna Prabha was able to bring in numerous reforms in the course of a career spanning 35 years. An exemplary entrepreneur, a great tennis player, and a staunch politician spared no effort to find ways how things can be changed for the better.
