Bollywood actor and politician Sunny Deol has rescued a 45-year-old woman who was sold as a slave in Kuwait.

The woman, Veena Bedi from Gurdaspur district in Punjab, was reportedly sold by a travel agent to a Pakistani man by conning her into believing that he would help her land a housekeeping job for a wage of Rs 30,000 per month.

Sunny, who is a Member of Parliament (MP) from Gurdaspur in Punjab, personally intervened after coming to know of the incident. He right away interacted with the ministry of external affairs following a swift action.

Bedi was brought back home on Friday.

Sunny Deol’s father, Dharmendra, took to Twitter to commend him. “Treat your job as your responsibility, Sunny beta. God bless you,” he posted through his official Twitter handle @aapkadharam.

Besides, Aam Aadmi Party parliamentarian and state party president Bhagwant Mann has been aiding Punjab residents who got stranded in abroad countries after being sent there by fraudulent travel agents. His Facebook page thus far is flooded with videos of young men seeking his assistance for their safe return.
