Limbi-Ahmedabad highway has witnessed two accidents just within a span of one hour on Sunday morning and has killed eight people which included an NRI couple.

The first accident has occurred when their SUV jumped the divider and has crashed into a dumper that was coming from the opposite direction in the other lane of the highway and has killed five people. The incident took place near Devpara village of Limbdi taluka in Surendranagar district.

Nagendra Prasad, a make-up artist with a Gujarati news channel in Ahmedabad, was on a pilgrimage to Somnath along with his family members who were from Andhra Pradesh. Bhavani has been identified as his wife.

The head constable with Panshina police station, Hitendrasinh Vala has said that the accident appears to have been taken place as the driver of the SUV dozed off while driving, due to which the SUV has lost control and has jumped the divider and crashed into the dumper that was coming from the opposite direction in the other lane of the highway.

The deceased have been identified to be from the same family, as Bhavani Nagendra (42), Subramanyam Tambaram (52), his wife Rajeshri (49), Ganesh Subramanyam (22) and Akhil Prasad (18). it has also been found that, the accident has caused injuries to five other persons who were then taken to a private hospital in Ahmedabad.

The second accident has been reported from near Mithapar village near Bagodara in Ahmedabad district where in three people were killed as their SUV has rammed into the rear of a dumper that was just ahead of it.

An official from the Bagodara police station has said that the accident tends to appear that the driver of the SUV has crashed into the rear of the dumper as he could not spot the lights of the vehicle ahead of it.

The deceased has been identified as an NRI couple who were Kenya-based, Ketan Haria (55) and his wife Kundan (54). the NRI couple were said to be the natives of Machuberaja village of Jamnagar’s Lalpur taluka. The driver of the SUV was also killed in the accident and has been identified as Hiren Doshi (49).

The incident has occurred when the Ketan and his wife were returning to Ahmedabad after attending a social function.
