Rapper-Hard-Kaur

The United Kingdom-based Indian rapper Hard Kaur has once again become a center of controversy after she posted a video with pro-Khalistan leaders voicing support for the secessionist “Referendum 2020” campaign being run by Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), which is banned in India, for a separate homeland for Sikhs.

The Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) is known to be involved in anti-national activities.

In the video, posted by Kaur, she can be seen with SFJ members who can be heard abusing Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Kaur further intensifies abuse and goes on to declare her support to the Khalistan movement.

Kaur earlier too faced backlash when she has voiced her support for the movement. Early this month, she had posted a video making a plea to people to vote in the unofficial referendum. In the last video, she could be seen putting on ‘Punjab Referendum 2020 Khalistan’ tee shirt with a background song, praising slain militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

Earlier in June, Hard Kaur, who has been active on social media targeting the government for quite some time now, was booked for her remarks against Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Earlier she had posted a book named “Who killed Karkare” and a photograph of slain journalist Gauri Lankesh with a remark “she won’t be forgotten.”

SFJ group was banned in India under Section 3 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for its alleged anti-national activities in July this year.

Headed by Avtar Singh Pannun and Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, SFJ was set up in 2007 but has come to prominence in the past 5 years as it started advocating a separate Khalistan state. It also started an online secessionist campaign, the ‘Sikh Referendum 2020’. The group’s chief aim is to establish an ‘independent and sovereign country’ in Punjab.

Though only eight to ten people are known to be its members, its online support is close to 2 lakh.
