While there has been uproar among people trying to find ways to cope with the US Visa ruling, reports suggest that the same might not affect the Indians for the worse. Majority of the Indians who have been in line with their green card applications aren’t likely to experience any issues.

The same is in accordance to the US Supreme Court’s decision to “lift an injunction” for reviewing the green card applications. The introduction of the public charge rule that provides the immigration officers with the discretion to decide which immigrants they want to admit to the United States based off of the customized assessments of whether or not the permitted immigrants will become a liability on the eligible tax payers.

Further clarifying the subject, the US government clarified saying, “to better ensure that aliens subject to the public charge inadmissibility ground are self-sufficient, i.e., do not depend on public resources to meet their needs, but rather rely on their own capabilities, as well as the resources of family members, sponsors, and private organizations.”

Majority of the Indians residing in the United States currently visited the country on the H-1B Visa which poses them under the prospects of the highly skilled and high earning individuals. The same isn’t dependent on the state aid.

The new ruling under the Visa rules is expected to affect the Green card applicants who are doing so under the category of family or related based green card applications.

Just a few weeks ago, several of the US companies, including Microsoft and Twitter have signed the “friend of the court brief” wherein they supported the ruling and suggested the court to not take down the injunction. This is expected to make it harder for the immigrants to gain the legal status.

Addressing the issue, Doug Rand, who is the President of Boundless suggested saying, “Let’s be clear: Hardly anybody applying for a green card is even eligible for government benefits, and they’re not likely to use them in the future. The public charge rule is simply an attempt to bypass Congress and block immigrants who aren’t wealthy.”
